The team behind Dubai’s beautiful Sonara Desert Camp has taken its signature luxury hospitality to the water with Lady Nara, a custom-built traditional dhow boat that’s been transformed into a stylish floating restaurant and bar.
It’s 4pm on a slow Sunday in January when I board Lady Nara close to Dubai Festival City, before swiftly setting sail along Dubai Creek in the direction of Old Dubai. I’m shown to a low-set sofa on the open-air top deck, where eager servers wait to offer me one of the fruity mocktails being shaken up at the bar that lines the back of the boat.
Celebrated for its opulent desert experiences, Sonara has unveiled its Nara on the Sea deluxe dinner cruise. Set across two dining decks aboard the Lady Nara dhow, diners can enjoy a menu featuring Artichoke Tart, Dry Beef Bresaola Carpaccio, Mediterranean Salad, Monkfish in Tomato Sauce with capers and Veal with Harissa Breadcrumbs. Departing daily from Dubai Festival City Harbour, the route takes in Burj Khalifa, Dubai Canal and the Ras Al Khor mangroves. Available daily from 8pm. Setting sail from Dubai Festival City harbour, the Nara on the Sea luxury dhow cruise Dubai offers two carefully curated routes. The heritage journey, available Mondays and Wednesdays, explores the traditional charm of Old Dubai, while the contemporary path, operating Thursday through Sunday, showcases the modern skyline including the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Canal waterfall bridge.

Under the guidance of French chef Gregory Khellouf, the culinary program presents two distinct dining experiences. The sunset cruise, a two-hour journey beginning at 4pm, features sophisticated canapés including sumac-spiced salmon toast and Middle Eastern-inspired panipuri filled with guacamole.
Evening dinner cruises elevate the experience with a sharing-style menu served over two and a half hours. Guests can savor artichoke tart with bergamot and white truffle honey, monkfish in tomato-caper sauce, and braised veal with harissa breadcrumbs. The meal concludes with a pistachio dacquoise, showcasing the kitchen’s ability to blend fine dining techniques with regional influences.

Ascending the steps to board Lady Nara to sample Nara on the Sea, Dubai’s newest dinner cruise that launches on Saturday, I notice the meticulous attention to detail: wooden slats line the ceiling; table arrangements are thoughtfully spaced out; cushioned banquettes are adorned with patterned throw pillows; and rattan chairs are complemented by hues of terracotta, cream and sage.
Right off the bat, it’s clear Nara on the Sea isn’t a run-of-the-mill touristy dinner cruise with endless buffet lines and speakers cranked up.
I make my way to the best seat in the house, the open-air upper deck that benefits from the breeze coming off the water. While shawls are available to borrow, dressing warmly is recommended in the evening chill of this season.
The deck has a number of circular and rectangular tables that will suit a variety of diners, from couples and families to larger groups. There is also plush low-seating complete with comfortable cushions and Persian-style rugs peppered throughout.
